Proudly on offer here is a stunning original Victorian mantelpiece in the highly coveted Noir Belg (or Belgian black) marble.

This is the premium of all materials ever used to create antique fireplaces, Noir Belg is extremely rare as the quarry where the pure black marble was mined was depleted around the beginning of the 1900’s.

Technically a highly compressed limestone Noir Belg was formed 360 million years ago when Belgium lay under a shallow tropical sea, a time before dinosaurs, before life even existed on land.

There is one single marine fossil showing on one of the legs other than that this highly polished mantelpiece is purely black, very similar to obsidian and visually stunning.

Mined in the early 1800’s.

Hole size – 940 w x 905 h

Top shelf – 1920 w x 360 depth
